As global attention sharpens on responsible sourcing in the cobalt and nickel sectors, Ines Kaempfer, CEO of The Centre for Child Rights and Business and Chair of the Fair Cobalt Alliance (FCA) Steering Committee, will deliver a keynote speech at the APAC Ni-Cr-Mn Stainless Steel & New Energy Conference session titled: ‘Nickel & Cobalt Supply Chain Reshuffle: Survival Strategies for DRC, Indonesia, and Chinese Players’ in Xiamen, China, on October 20 from 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
This major event will gather industry leaders, experts and innovators from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss the latest advancements and trends in stainless steel production and new energy technologies. Attendees will have the opportunity to network, share insights and explore the future of sustainable materials and energy solutions.
The Centre is actively working with partners on the ground in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and with leading global brands to prevent and remediate child labour in the copper-cobalt artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector through our Child Rights Action Hub. As ASM-sourced cobalt continues to feed into global supply chains, expectations are rising for companies to demonstrate meaningful due diligence and responsible sourcing practices.
Drawing on her leadership at The Centre and her role as FCA Steering Committee Chair, Ines Kaempfer will highlight the critical importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration, especially through initiatives like the FCA and the need to engage with local civil society actors to build a responsible mining sector. She will also draw on her insights from the Child Rights Action Hub DRC as a scalable, structured and collaborative mechanism for companies to address child labour risks in a practical and impactful way in a highly informal and complex sector.
We look forward to connecting with companies sourcing copper or cobalt, particularly in the battery, automotive, and new energy sectors, during this event.
